In less than three days’ time Sarah Botes – alumna of the Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University(NWU Vaal), will step-up to face her biggest personal challenge to date: to compete in the grand finale of the prestigious Miss South Africa beauty pageant.
Sarah (22) completed her BCom degree in Industrial Psychology at the campus in 2013 within the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Information Technology. She completed her high school career at the Sasolburg High School where she passed the National Senior Certificate Examination in 2010, with three distinctions.
If Sarah’s impressive academic record is anything to go by, she is set to reach great heights – be it as a professional industrial psychologist or as a proud ambassador for the Miss SA pageant. During her time as a student on the campus she was a member of the Golden Key Honour Society and was awarded as the Top Third Year BCom student in 2013. She maintained an average of above 80% during her studies. In 2013 she also received a Top Achiever Award from the campus.
Messages of encouragement from her alma mater

Sarah, on behalf of the university and the Alumni Office, I would like to wish you the best of luck with this very special endeavour. Remember: Life is a journey; enjoy the ride! In difficult times take solace in the fact that life’s ups and downs add value to who you are. These challenging moments empower you to be the best version of yourself you can ever be. Thank you for taking up the baton of community service and for reaching out to those in need.
As per your own words: “I believe that my passion for children; combined with my dream of becoming Miss South Africa; is a powerful calling. Essentially that is what the pageant is all about – beauty with a purpose and a voice for the voiceless.” Good luck, and rest assured: we are very proud of you!
