The Industrial Psychology Forum, of the North-West University Vaal Triangle Campus (NWU Vaal) that was instigated in 2014 is rapidly developing into one of the prime and most anticipated societies on campus. Their first event for the academic year, namely ‘Talk of the Century’, was hosted on 9 March. According to Miss Neheng Mahlate , the public relations officer of the Forum, the origin of the event was shaped from the fact that there is a gap in the relationship between lecturers and students and therefore students do not always understand the course that they are studying.

“We are dedicated to close the gap between students and lecturers in order to provide students with the necessary information and guidance throughout their studies”, elaborates Miss Mahlate.

The informative event was guided by guest speakers Ms Jaraida Latif (Lecturer), Mr Chacha (Lecturer) and Mr N. Ngubane (Honour student). The lecturers provided the students, who are studying Industrial Psychology and Labour Relations Management, with clarity about their studies by means of elaborating about different fields which they can pursue with their degree and what their careers will entail. Guest speaker Mr N. Ngubane, whom is an Honour student in Labour Relations, provided the students with a glimpse of what to expect if they want to pursue their Honours.

The students gained applicable information concerning their studies by means of this event. The IP Forum hinted that after the recess they will be hosting an event which will guide and advise students who want to open their own practice and where practitioners in the field of Industrial Psychology and Labour Relations will come to address the students. The industrial Psychology Forum seems to be very enthusiastic about assisting and guiding students and therefore students of the field can look forward to several upcoming events that will benefit their studies.
