The Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University (NWU Vaal) has been busy for the past few months with many a residence beauty pageant. Now, it has come down to the last one before all finalists prepare for the Mr and Miss NWU Vaal. On 29 April 2016, the top ladies and gents of the Thuthuka Residence will be ‘battling’ it out for the title of Mr or Miss Thuthuka 2016/2017.
The Thuthuka residence has gone all out for the event, and it can be seen clearly when looking at what the whole night has in store for not only the contestants but for the crowd as well! With the hours counting down, the Mr and Miss Thuthuka pageant is one NOT to miss!
The MCs for the night will be Leroy Marc, Shaun Stylist, and our very own stunning Thato Immaculate Mokoena, who will keep the crowd rearing and cheering in between the catwalks and poses of the contestants.

The benefit before the pageant
This year, the Thuthuka residence has stepped it up a notch, by bringing their love of the community and specifically the students of the Campus closer together. With the theme Pageant with a heART, the residence envisions their pageant as a fundraiser that will use ART as a way to influence peoples perceptions on art and how it can be used as a platform for change in today’s world. The event will see up-and-coming local artists as well as our own talented students showcase their art, from music, drawing, dance, poetry (and of course their runway walks). The event will also see local and student owned small businesses showcasing their products and services.
The main theme for the pageant Pageant with a heART – The heart that gives, gathers; have seen the contestants bringing back to the community even before they hit the runway. The contestants have been busy with community outreach at the Matwala’s Children’s Home by helping to clean, cook and of course entertain and play with the children. As they stated on their Facebook page about the outreach: “They [Matwala’s Children Home] will not remember our faces and names, but they will remember how we made them feel [that day]”.
