Working together for a good cause has become an important part of Campus culture… Not only by either students OR staff, but by students AND staff. The Million Meals Project is just one initiative on Campus that is going to bring the Campus community together, while helping each other, and having fun (all in a days work).
Million Meals Project
The aim of the Million Meals Project, explains Mr Herman Steyn, Director of Finance and Facilities, is “an opportunity to provide nutritious food to needy students”. Campus Management, along with the help of YOU the students, are committing to pack 100 000 meals on Saturday, 17 September 2016 at the Student Center; from 09:00 – 12:00.
What is the plan for the day?
Not only is this a great initiative to help needy students, BUT this is also a chance for you and your team to win! Each Residence is being asked to sign up a team (or more) to help on the day. The students (in terms of their residences) will be split into nine groups of around 20 students each. Before the start of the packing, all groups will be given a 15 minute crash-course on dry food packing to help them come up with a system for their group to make things run smoothly.
Let the packing begin!
Once the crash course is done, and the teams are ready, the race over who can pack the most meals begins! As added motivation, a prize of R10 000 will be given to the winning team, that can be used by the winning residence as part of their 2016/2017 funds.
The teams will be judged on not only how many meals they pack, but also team participation, team spirit, and creativity, amongst other things.
How can YOU help…
With SO many meals needing to be packed in only TWO hours, Mr Steyn is asking for students (up to 180) to help on the day. If you are interested, make sure to talk with your Student Supervisor of your residence ASAP! They will be able to see if there is still space on the teams!
If you happen to be on Campus on the day, pop by the Student Center, join a team, and help out!
