In the rush and confusion that comes with the last couple of months of the year, it would be easy to forget that the end of the year is quietly approaching. The media and shopping malls do their part to remind us (in October already) that the festive season with its carols and candlelight is just around the corner.
The time away from work and the campus, gives us the opportunity to look back and reflect on the year and its events. As humans, we tend to focus on the challenges first. Whatever the challenges might have been, we have just completed our academic year. Our academics accumulated achievements and, twice this year, our students filled the graduation hall to capacity. I am convinced that our victory over the challenges and worries of the past year was achieved by keeping our eyes, with thanksgiving, on the positive. Furthermore, we never awaited our achievements as something that was owed to us, we worked hard for them. We planned carefully, persevered as a team and we reaped the fruits of our efforts. Herewith my sincere thanks to you, students, for the role that you played in the successes of 2016.
With 2017 at our door, we can excitedly start planning a new year with new initiatives and a new structure, which undoubtedly, will take us into a new era in which we can flourish as individuals, but also as part of a unitary institution. May 2017 be a year of fulfillment for each of us and may it take us to new heights of excellence.
I wish you a blessed festive season. May it truly be a time of rest for you during which you can strengthen your bonds with friends and family. May we all return safely in 2017, ready to be part of something remarkable.
