Who am I really? Our identity is a part of what makes us who we are, but sometimes we question who we are, compared to who we think we should be. Maybe you have been through the dreaded ‘identity crisis’ that usually rears its head in our teenage years. Looking at yourself in the mirror and trying to figure out who you are in the universe, why you may look or act different to your friends or what you see on television. Well; you are not alone!

The Subject Group, Theology and Philosophy, in the Faculty of Humanities (North-West University Vanderbijlpark – NWU Vaal) is inviting student leaders, academics, post-graduate students, and other interested students and staff to a lecture that will discuss the problem of identity and how it relates to race. The lecture will explore through the narratives of two people who come from different continents and upbringings. One of the main questions that will be looked into is “How do our stories resonate with theirs?”, with the speakers being:

Rachel Doležal, educator and activist: Why I am not White
Clyde Ramalaine, church leader and political commentator: Why I am not Black

The event information is as follows:
Date: Thursday, 20 April 2017
Venue: Building 11B, Room G21 (Seminar Room)
Time: 10:00-12:00

If you are interested in attending, you MUST send a confirmation e-mail before 09:30 on 20 April 2017 with ATTEND in the subject line to:
